Does Laser Hair Removal Hurt?

Does Laser Hair Removal Hurt?

In a word, yes.

There's really no such thing as painless laser hair removal. If it's painless, the technician isn't using enough power, or the machine is unable to deliver sufficient power. Either way, you'll likely not going to get the results you're hoping for.

In order for the energy to penetrate through the skin and reach the hair bulb, sufficient power must be applied to the surface of the skin.

While the sensation of the laser pulse can be quite strong, (as some body areas are more sensitive than others), it's not a lingering sensation. It's over in a fraction of a second.

There are topical anesthetics that can be applied about 30 minutes prior to treatment which help to decrease the sensitivity substantially. And, some laser centres will have chiller carts which blow very cold air onto the skin to help decrease the sensation as well.

Laser hair removal isn't for the faint of heart, but that said, don't be afraid to consider it. When performed correctly, and at the correct intervals to maximize the kill, it can be a very effective, safe and fast method for removing unwanted hair from virtually any body area.
